Photo Slideshow Battle

26 08 2009

Teachers often ask which is the best photo slideshow creator to use in class. The ‘usual’ three I hear about are Animoto (teachers click here), PhotoPeach and Stupeflix. So I decided to do a test. Using the same photos for all sites, I created slideshows and compared their features and final product.

However, everyone has different tastes. You may view the three examples below. Which do you prefer? I’ll give my breakdown and verdict tomorrow. Do you know of any other alternatives? If so, please let me know.

Example 1: Animoto

Example 2: PhotoPeach

Example 3: Stupeflix (Note: Stupeflix only holds the video for 1 month. I  downloaded it and then uploaded it to Vimeo.)

For me…PhotoPeach would be the choice for the kinds of photo’s you have here. Your photos are of high quality and have been carefully framed/composed when you took them. Therefore the compression that Animoto gives, does not do justice to the crisp, clear photos. So to, the ‘heavy’ black framing of Stupeflix also is a step back from the well framed shot you had taken in the first place.

However, if you have candid shots of people or events I think I’d choose Animoto as I like the range of transitions and ‘focusing/highlight’ option they give.

Great post FC.

I was not a fan of the third option – the left to right sliding of the images and the heavy black frame was not visually appealing to me.

The second option seemed more grainy and ‘jumpy’.

I liked the smoother transitions of the first – and thanks for the tip about teacher signups for that!

This post came at the perfect time for me! Thanks!
